So... how fit do we need to be? most of us are way out of shape and boot camp would thoroughly kick our butts into next week...
any ideas of at minimum we should be able to do?
- hike xx miles? - carry xx lbs during the hike? - taebo black belt?

Stan will probably correct me on this but I think we need to focus on general fitness. I'm trying to log in 10-15 miles of road work a week. I have also been trying this Crossfit thing everyone is talking about. There is a youtube channel that I've been watching and I developed a lifting routine based on their workout:
MHPXFit is the channel. Check it out.

6 miles/week of running is a good start. Hiking is another solid form of exercise. I want to make sure everyone is in good cardiovascular condition for a full day of patrolling/hiking, short sprints, and yet plenty of "thinking" to do.
One good indicator is run two miles at a moderate pace and not be wiped out at the finish.
Mind you that most of your cardio here will be the fire team offense using fire and movement.

Crossfit is a good start. Improving cardio and agility will help a lot. I've been doing a lot of exercises to improve my agility but I could improve on my cardio.

Urban cycling is the thing for me but my bike seems to stop everytime at the local donut shop on my way back. I gotta have my LBS check why it seems to veer towards those sugar coated delicacies on my return leg.

Don't rush it and take one step at a time. If you can afford one, hire a personal trainer. I personally don't have the time to hike hills and I find it kind of boring. I'd rather do lunges and burpees.

I think people are getting a little carried away or off-base on this topic. Just read the description: It talks about a 12 hour session that involves mostly walking carrying a light load and a little bit of light running when performing actual shooting drills. The best way to train for walking carrying a light load is to walk carrying a light load. Just go for a hike and experience the natural world in all its glory.

You're right but it won't hurt to over train. My routine is what I would be doing anyway with or without TASC.

You got months to prepare. Plenty of time to start doing a little walking/running.

If i could get my tired achin , old body to endure the required stress ..Id try crossfit ... Right now its just Zumba for this boy but I am striving to work my way up to more challenging workouts.
SULE for me is my personal fitness level check to cap off 2012 as I had promised t get myself in better shape and obtain more skillsets .

Crossfit is good stuff, but I don't think it translates directly to something like SULE. When I did Tough Mudder last year, many Crossfitters were having a hard time. More than 50% of the competitors dropped out of the Sunday race (maybe due to unseasonably cold weather). I think many of them were not prepared for the ENDURANCE aspect.

That's where the 10-15 miles a week of road work comes in. I don't think there will be lots of heavy lifting for SULE but lots of short bursts of explosive movements, that's where the crossfit should help IMHO.

I personally love trail running, even though I hardly get to do it these days. The trails are much more forgiving on your joints + the terrain is much more challenging, not to mention the scenery, fresh air and not having to stop for lights, dodge cars and breathe in fumes.

As I get older, it seems that we are fighting time due to a multitude of reasons (family, kids etc). what I found that help me to train as hard as I can with the shortest amount of time is adding stressors to every rep. Example, create a high interval workout with minimal to no rest. I do a blend of crossfit with a weighted vest or jump into cardio. Within 30minutes, you will be exhausted. This obviously works for me after I found traditional workouts did not help me with my weight issue.
