you aren't going to find ranges (public or private) that have that in socal... closes thing i remember was pendleton... don't know if they let weekend warriors play where the big boys train would love to do a 2 day overnight mission style training. assault team and support team. hike in to the castle, assault the castle, save the princess, slay the dragon, retreat when momma dragon gets mad, and evac. We could do something like this in 29 Palms but how many people would be willing to drive or carpool? Lets see in a year or so. Give me enough time to soften the wife to the idea, I'm in ;D

How about force on force using paintball or airsoft?

How about force on force using paintball or airsoft? If we did something like that I would like to use Simunitions/SESASMs which are primer powered paint capsules @ 300 FPS! However they are really expensive so perhaps airsoft would be the way to go.

Personally, I think the high-speed SUT stuff is cool and all but I think has very limited application for us unless it's part of our job desription. To be honest if I ever have to get guns in the fight chances are it's gonna be me and just me.
I'd like to see more Shotgun classes. Rifle courses are great but let's face it. At what point in our lives, unless we do it for a living, are we going to armor up with our fancy rigs and bring our rifles into play? As opposed to getting up at 3AM to glass breaking and grabbing the scattergun to check it out?
Don't get me wrong, SUT, two-man stuff etc., are all GREAT tools to have in the toolbox but they are tools that are unlikely to see the light of the day for Joe Civilian. I would like to see classes with less of a military/LEO influence and more applicable to situations/equipment that would be more likely to happen to us regular dudes.
Home Defense considerations would be great, both in terms of "bump in the night" as well as the home as a fixed position in a larger situation. Urban/Close combat considerations, dumbed down for us civs who don't have ironed out SOPs and dedicated equipment would also be good. Things of that nature.

I'm looking forward to the shoothouse being ready for some urban classes. tiernone06, I get what you're saying, but I do see practicality in these other courses. Aside from the drills being a lot of fun, they just plain make you more proficient with whatever firearm you're using. I have actually put one on when the Sheriff's Dept was searching for a felon on the loose (yikes). There I sat in the house, 9 months prenant, with a gun belt on and a pistol in my holster, ready to go. I think it's so important to be familiar and comfortable with your gear.
I do agree with you that home defense and urban classes would be awesome. I know that some of that is on the not too distant horizon.

I don't want the instructions to be dumbed down. The individual can figure out what works or doesn't work for him/her on their own. I like the two man stuff, like I explained to my wife, I may need her to lay down cover fire while I get to the shotgun or cover my 6 while I grab the kids. I want the instructions to be as realistic as possible. I'll figure out what works for me and my situation.

I agree that instructions don't need to be "Dumbed Down" but they also have to be effective instructions in order for a non mil/LE student to get something meaningful out of it.
There is a big difference between this:
"Remember, in CQB you have to clear the fatal funnel and secure your points of dominance before clearing dead space."
and this:
"it is important not to stay in doorways because that is where an assailant's fire will be drawn toward. We call these fatal funnels. when you move to the corners of the room to clear it, don't forget that there are areas you can't see, like behind couches or desks, where someone could be hiding. This is called "deadspace"
I too am looking forward to the shoot house. This would be an excellent asset, and one that even military and LEO units don't get access to as often as they should.

Dumb question. But the Shoot House, we shooting Live ammo? Simunitions? or Airsoft?
On a side note ( I cant believe no one suggested it yet). I would be interested in a Long range / Sniper course.
I sold off my Savage 10 but I still got my Chinese Dragunov and Springfield M14. Would like to push these guys out to >1000meters. If anything else, just professional instruction on marksmanship.
