I prefer to train how I would need to fight, which is CA Legal only. I don't do the whole "oh ho, these are ACTUALLY 10/30s, lol wink wink" thing. Rem 870 with 3 Gun Gear velcro side saddle, and homebrew shortened LOP factory Rem stock. Works until I can afford an aftermarket one. No sling because primary use will be in the house for bump in the night and I'm not gonna sling up for that. Needs WML and it will be complete. Saiga x39. No external mods or accessories with this yet. Takes getting used to working the safety with the Sporter stock, but to me it's a good compromise between a grip fin or going illegal. Reloads are the same as any AK, which is cool because I can actually legally do reloads. Needs optic and WML. EMDOM Gunslinger usually rides on it. Also going to shorten the LOP somehow.

One plus with real 10 round mags vs. 10/30's is that they are much less bulky, so you can carry more of them with ease.

Yeah, that's true. Only problems are finding pouches that won't completely eat up 10rd mag, and reloading every 10 rounds... but that's what training is for!

Not sure if those 10 rd. AK mags would fit in SKS stripper clip pouches (probably not) If you know someone who can sew, custom pouches wouldn't be that hard. I know that in a lot of other fields, DIY gear is all the rage. For some reason the shooting community are slaves to name brands.

Have you thought about doing the mag release button hack to fit 10rd AK mags? I may try the Saiga next time since I had so much trouble with comfort on my featureless AR. 10rd AK mags are much less expensive than the factory Saiga ones.
