I am confused re. where to put the Camelbak when carrying a pack. Do you carry the Camelbak in the pack or under the pack? If you carry it under, isn't it uncomfortable? If it's in the pack, is it practical to ditch your water during the assault phase or does it not matter for our purposes?

my hsgi weesatch plate carrier has the pouch for the hydration system. the pack wears over the plate carrier. all my packs are designed for internal hydration as well, but i don't have bladders in them right now. i could have double the water (at double the weight)
i imagine you should be able to do the same with any of your load bearing vests that you are wearing for your mag pouches... now if you were running a belt only system, you would have to dump your water with the pack...

Here's one suggestion: don't fill your bladder all the way and also carry a few bottles in your pack too. I also use one of the 100 oz bladders that are wide and squat but also flatter for this purpose. If you already own one of the narrower bladders and don't want to buy another just throw that in your pack and carry a canteen or water bottle in your LBE/vest. Most of your water will be drunken during the patrol to the assault position (the hike in.)

Who is planning to wear their plates for this exercise? So did anyone wear their plates on SULE or did they ditch/bury them on the side of the hill for later retrieval?! ;D

The students that did wear plates were in good physical shape.

I'm in on the May 17th. I think I'm in average shape. I was wearing front and back steel plates and 7 30rds mag load out with AK on CAT 303. My leg was dead crouching and getting back up, by the end of the day my leg could no longer keep me standing with all the gears. All my other muscles was okay minus right thigh which became out of commission for few days after from lactic acid build up. *Damn you stairs*
I'm just worried about the heat and the full day of hiking in gears.
Would a walking stick by good for SULE to help with the weight and exertion?

I think we'll be lucky in regards to weather. Friday is supposed to be the coolest day of the week, around 75. We'll still be sweating, but better to sweat at 75 than at 90+. As far as the weight... it can definitely suck, depending on your condition... Personally, I "travel" light at SULE. No steel plates, no MOLLE vest (I don't like the body heat trapped under all that). All the gear and weight is around my hips. I know, it's cheating, but this time I'm really out of shape. Haven't done anything at all for 3 months and just started running two weeks ago. It will be interesting; I might be crying by the end of the day

A few things to keep in mind for SULE Friday.
If you are worried about weight. Start with your light kit and after the first run you can add your plates more water and anything else you like. It is a bit of a hike but remember its a patrol not a fast walk.
With the camel pack. I prefer to have a pouch on the back of my plate carrier that the bladder sliders into easily (with out me talking off my vest) While I am patrolling I like to keep just the bladder in my pack (easily accessible) When we get to the assault position it is a quick zip grab and drop into my vest and off we go. Best method to use is try as many ways you can think of and whatever method works best for you use.
Finally the best thing you can do to be set up for success is hydrate starting now! Lots of water and good food will make the world of differance. My faveortie thing to do is drink a bottle of pedialyte the night before.
