I have to give a thumbs up to Gossamer. I had a Mariposa Plus, very comfortable and purchased on sale. I only sold it b/c I realized I wasn't going anywhere.

gossamer gear, golite, zpacks, etc are all extremely light, but the parachute type materials they use aren't durable at all. they gash easily with rocks/branches and since they don't have any weight bearing properties on their own, they pull at the stitches. most people i know with these only use them for 1-3 years before having to replace it with another. but for the weight savings they get, they will gladly do it over and over and over again....
6-9 oz pack vs 5 lb pack unloaded... yeah it's a beautiful thing

I think it's worth it! The lighter your load, the faster you can move, the more distance you can cover.
A lot of people online talk about having all kinds of stuff, but very few of them have gone the distance (literally).

That and foraging from the sleeping students who were so exhausted from the day's activities no doubt.
