I think that grenades are considered destructive explosives/devices under the 1968 law, so flashbang being considered a grenade falls under this. The funny thing is that tannerite is totally legal in all 50 states and can produce much higher yield explosions. You can also legally own flame throwers.

In my experience flash-bangs haven't been the most dangerous things in the world, but if we can't have them, we can't have them. So here's my idea - host the class in another country! MQD .. ALS is a leading distraction device maker but only LE and MIL have access to it and rightfully so. I witnessed a bang going off in a trooper's hand during CQB exerises in the Phil in 2005 ..Take it from me ...It wasnt a hapy day for all most especially the trooper who lost his hand and the guy who had to take the hand to the hospital ...lost a hi-speed shooter that day as he was on disablity soon after. Well, everything that we're handling at the range can cause serious injury or death if we're not cautious. I just don't see flashbang any more dangerous than my rifle if I'm negligent with it. So, I'm not sure why they are off limits to civilians. But hey, I'm not as wise as our legislatures.

Airsoft Thunder B bang simulators use C02 and have 120+ db, and just with a quick glance at Google, actual training bangs are around 130db.
Even with that said - not sure why we'd need to simulate entries with bangers. Really not our lane, and that moves from training for our likely fight into the realm of fantasy and "be a doorkicker for a day," which shouldn't be listed as a class and more like one of those "experience" things. Unless of course your career calls for doorkicking.
Killhouse would be great with Sims/airsoft and 1-2 man clears though.

I was just wondering if it was legal to own and it just went from there.

Ah okay. Because S-13 was saying something like, if flashbangs aren't legal to own then the class should be hosted in another country.

Alright, guys I was just going to let this go its course but some of you need to take it easy. This is not the AR15.com general discussion board (which happens to be the equal of the greyhound bus station of the internet).
I can see some merits of flashbangs etc. and have creative ways of using other things for distraction devices. Will you ever need it? Maybe not. But much of what we learn here is the intangible not necessarily the literal training curriculum.
Its ok to diagree, we're not going to agree with everything.

Classic grenade accident/suicide scene during house clearing training in 1970s Israeli film "Stretcher March". The commander gives the guy who has stage fright a hard time and the soldier ends up dead.
