I've used Tactical Research Kiowa Soft Toe boots for SULE and it held up very well. I was going to buy a pair of Salomon Quest 4D GTX but these boots were sitting in my room for a long time.

I'll let you know after SULE. What did you think of the boots ? LAPG just got another shipment. At $40, I'm picking up another pair or two. Great boots.

Wow ! Those are amazing prices. I picked up my BATES boots on Friday from LAPG, and have been wearing them nonstop. I do have to agree and say that they are very comfortable out of the box, however they to do run narrow. The LAPG rep. was right. Now I just need to learn how to lace these things up right. I've never worn 8" boots before. Maybe Stan can do a workshop on how to lace these up correctly ! LOL !

My vote is for Oakley I will admit they don't hold up for years and years like bates and danners do but the pros well out weigh the cons. Great fit, quick break in, GREAT TO RUN IN, and very light. Down fall heavy rain and snow. Your feet will freeze.

Like many things, this one comes down to personal preference. I've got wide feet, one foot slightly longer than the other, and arches that need only slight support. I've wear Danners because they fit like a glove. I have to agree that the BATES boots do run NARROW. I picked them up at the warehouse and tried them on in the lobby. They didn't fit so I exchanged them right there. If nothing else, they do make a great $40 shtf boot to keep in the truck w/ my BOB.

The Bates come in W sizes as well and that's what I bought with my $40. It lets me put in some gels and wear thick socks. I'll never have to buy another pair of boots with the three I have now.

For those of you who still might need a back up pair of boots, LA Police Gear has the BATES RAT boots on sale again. 20% off the regular $39.99. Looks like they're limited to "regular" width and a few wide sizes. www.lapolicegear.com/disco-deals.html
