Just finished "The Art of War" I read this book every couple of years. Started "Emergency Preparedness Basics" by Eric Baird. I had the pleasure of working with Eric and his family on a video shoot. Great Guy and will review his work on Bear Flag Trading. Attachments:

Next up: "Outlaw Platoon, Heroes, Renegades, Infidels and the Brotherhood of War in Afghanistan" Just finished this book. Great book!!!! It lets you peek into daily life of a combat squad. You'll get a glimpse of all the crazy and heroic things that they have to endure to carry out their duties. Every time I think I understand the extent of sickness that lies in some people's hearts, I'm proven wrong -- It can be worse. Sadly, there are parts of that book which more than confirm for me the evils that lie beyond our borders and why we have to be out there fighting the wars that we have -- at least in Afghanistan anyway. Still not sure about Iraq. Next up: "The Only Thing Worth Dying For. How Eleven Green Berets Fought for a New Afghanistan"

But why do WE have to be fighting there at all? What have we accomplished and what will happen there after we leave?

But why do WE have to be fighting there at all? What have we accomplished and what will happen there after we leave? IMHO my friend, and this only applies to Afghanistan because I still don't understand why we're in Iraq, we're there for two reasons: REASON 1. The Talibans were in control of that country in 2001. The Talibans were the acting central government that allowed terrorist groups with malice intent for our country to train and grow there. They provided a home for al-Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden who planned the September 11 attack on our soil. We took down the central government there so it was our duty to put in another central government in place that was not openly anti-U.S.A. before we leave; and REASON 2. To paraphrase a retired Marine who I saw on one of those shows on the Military Channel: "Yeah, I remember that place. We told the bad guys where we were going to be, and we told them to come and get some." We've taken down tens of thousands would be terrorists who would otherwise found their ways into our malls and airports the last 10 years. Do you think that if we had not responded with war that OBL would have not been even bolder in his next attack of our country? I just wished our leadership was wiser and not wasted our resources on Iraq and just focused on winning the entire war in Afghanistan. If we had just left Iraq alone, maybe Sadam Hussein would have stopped Iran's nuclear ambition by now.

The goal is admirable, but I think the results are nearly unattainable. If we leave, I predict the government we installed will collapse. While perhaps Afghanistan itself is no longer the place to be for anti-American terrorists, they are now just dispersed to a variety of other places, particularly next door in Pakistan (our "friends").
I agree re. Iraq. That was a can of worms that really could have been left shut.

Afghanistan hasn't been at peace for centuries. It has to figure out its own problem internally, we should minimize our meddling so long as it keeps its problems to itself and not let it spill out like what led to 9-11.
We have to regroup and get set for a nuclear Iran. That's not going to be fun.

In front of me I have, "The Gift of Fear" by Gavin De Becker. I started that one, have to get back to it after I finish the one I'm working on. Give us a review when you're done.

but it happened in Pakistan, where we are not. No we're not but those are same guys who are in Iraq shooting at our troops when they're not shooting little girls and raping little boys. Read that book about the Outlaw platoon and you'll see what I'm talking about. Pakistan is where they train and get patched up before they roll into war against us to get some because we told them where we are
