Back in the day, my first shotgun was an Benelli M1Super90. Thought it was super kool, it shot 5rds a SECOND.
Before the first empty casing hits the floor, the 5th rounds is already out the barrel.
Sounds kool in the sales ad, but in practice that meant I was out of ammo in 1 second. And took another Minute+ to load 5+ rds. (did I mention it kicked like a horse!!)
The M1S90 was recoil operated so maintenance was pretty easy. Other semi autos on the market is Gas Operated and it requires more detailed cleaning, etc.
My current HD shotgun is a Rem 870. Low maintenance, less moving parts, less crap to break down in the field.
When funds are available I'll probably pick up a Moss 590a1.

I know where you're coming from, I had the same argument with myself before I made the switch. To me, I can now treat my shotgun like my AK47. Less muscle memory, it's just a larger caliber AK. I'm in CA, so I'm legally stuck with 10 rounds, be it in 5.56, 7.62 or 00. This way, there is less training. That being said, I do see the reliability issue that comes with the Saiga that doesn't come with the pump. BUT, even the USMC see the benefit of the semi auto shotgun since the Benelli are replacing the Mossberg pump.
