A very interesting and sobering view of the war in Grosny back in 1996. There is Closed captioning for English translation. You have to watch it with the English translation to appreciate it...
Really worth watching the whole thing form start to finish. I watched the whole thing twice!
A couple points I could gather from watching.
* The War in Groznia was about oil according to the troops...
* In an urban warfare environment aiming for accuracy is optional since you really can't see the enemy...
So this begs a question. In an urban environment when the SHTF, do you need a weapon that is sub MOA accurate or a weapon that can take abuse, has a high capacity mag, powerful enough to punch through concrete walls and shoot objects from a greater distance but need not be so accurate?
* Russian soldiers don't leave their dead brothers behind as well...
* interesting to watch a wounded soldier loading the bottom mag (...of two mags on a coupler) simply with one hand easily while top mag was still attached to the rifle. A good technique IMO...
* It sucks to be civilian left behind in a war zone subject to abuse from both sides...

We did a case study of the fighting in Chechnya in the Basic Officer Course and a few others. Up until we went into Iraq it served as one of the largest urban battles in recent times. It was bloody on both sides and the Chechens were largerly former USSR trained, equipped, knew how to speak/understand Russian but the Russians did not necessarily understand the native language in Chechnya. It took the Russians to take the kid gloves off and level entire urban areas with artillery to win.
Something at least 2 MOA but rugged as hell and everyone around you is using the same magazines.

The case study in progress re. urban warfare at the moment is Syria. Some of the scenes there remind me of Stalingrad minus the snow.
