After you read the "uplifting" book about the end of our days, you might want to read this one to make you feel better.

I enjoyed "Brotherhood of Warriors". I get most of my books out the library, so if I don't like them it's no big deal. I guess it depends what you are looking for in a book. It's a very quick read. It's primarily about all the trouble he has to go to in order to make into Duvdevan. Of course he is light on details, because the unit's work is secret. I think some reviewers may have gotten annoyed with the author's personality. I just took it with a grain of salt.
I've personally never been crazy about Duvdevan, because in my eyes their work is a form of special police work as opposed to more traditional army stuff. At heart I like being out in the field.

Wrapping up "the Snake Eaters"... my thoughts so far:
a) the mission of training the Iraqis is/was incredibly complicated. b) amazing how the American reservists in the book managed to stay motivated, especially considering how dangerous their seemingly pointless mission was.

"The road" actually looks pretty cool. I'm adding it to my Amazon wishlist to remind myself to check it out the library. I'm working on "Aftermath" by Nir Rosen. A word of caution - the author has a strong anti-American bias. That beng said, it's a pretty heavy, long book, but still an amazing read. He covers the war in Iraq as well as Lebanon & Afghanistan from the ground up. He spends his time living amongst the insurgents and the common people. He speaks fluent Arabic, so that helps. Amazing that a Jewish American guy with Israeli parents didn't get killed writing this book. Maybe the locals know he's on their side, so they like him. It's fascinating, but it's tough to keep track of the hundreds of names the author throws out right and left. What keeps the book from being truly excellent is its lack of organization. The book is more of a compilation of journalistic dispatches. What makes it amazing is the unparalleled access that he gets to interview and spend time with Sunnis, Shiites, Jihadis, ordinary people, government figures etc. all over the Middle East. While there are many books about the wars in Iraq & Afghanistan by Americans most of them lose quite a bit because of their distance from local people. This one completes the picture.

Just finished reading, "A Greater Share of Honour: The memoirs of a 'Reece' Officer" by Major Jack Greeff.
Pretty damn good book. Well written. Never a boring chapter. Good insight on other countries SF units.

Just finished "No Easy Day". Easy read. It does give some never heard of before details about the operation that took down Osama, but I would be surprise if the government carried through with the threat of prosecuting the author. Nothing in the book really was a "secret".

Fearless, the Adam Brown story is a great read. It's about Brown and his SEAL team, some of whom were killed in that helicopter incident when it was shot down by an enemy's RPG in Afghan. When I read books like this it reminds of how great America is. All you have to do is have a dream and work your ass off and you'll get it. You just need to get started. It also reminds me of all the real heros in America and how little we do for them given the sacrifices they make for our freedom.
