hey gang, went to the range today to play with my new ar500 targets. mostly shot 9mm at it. about 30 rounds of 45acp. and 5 rounds of m193 5.56. pistol rounds didn't affect it, just splattered the paint. the 5.56 was shot at about 30 yards and it cratered a little bit as you can see in the pics. didn't shoot any m855 or wolf at it since i figure it would pierce right through at this distance... great targets and lots of fun. you get that instant gratification of the ding when you hit it. there's lots of lead splatter on the ground and wood post (i hit the wood too d'oh). pretty cool to recover the spent destroyed bullet too. those are the 45% ipsc targets (about 8x11). i think i want to get the 66% ipsc targets instead. the 100%ipsc is huge and heavy... at the 30-40 yard mark, my t1's 4moa dot was pretty much covering the entire target.

i went to raahauges. i'm a member there so every free weekday session i get to sneak out, i try to go. this is a private range with private lanes so we actually get to practice what stan teaches us (unlike most public ranges that confine you to the bench or near it). they have no issues with you doing any of the drills stan taught us, including on person gun transitions.
if any member is in the corona area and is thinking of going, hit me up. i may be able to make it... (highly unlikely on weekends tho)

My buddies and I run AR500 steel targets as well. Great stuff, so satisfying when you ding them. Last outing, we were at Burro Canyon on a private range tagging them with 5.56 from 100 yards away. Chipped the paint but no craters I don't think. We're going to be getting a dueling tree soon so we can practice with handgun to increase accuracy and speed.

yep, i want a dueling tree too. but most of the time, my range trips are solo unless i go to one of stan's classes.
i was running el presidente (2 shots each, reload, another 2 shots) and bill drills (empty mag on one target, reload, empty mag on next, reload, empty mag again) on these today. but i don't have a timer and my smartphone timer was acting funky so i just ran it without time.
i have other target stands that i can set up for more targets or even use as obstacles and cover. now i can set up my own idpa stage lol.

How high are you setting up those targets?

i think i cut the wood posts at 5 feet tall.. so the top of the metal is about 5'4" or so... i'm not aiming down for the distance i'm shooting at.. its pretty straight forward as if at real threat. metal is angled down so you get lead splatter all over the base of the stand and on the posts...
everything breaks down and fits in my trunk pretty easily.. just heavy. i'm glad raahauges lets me drive all the way to the berm to unpack the targets.

I just picked up a couple of ar500 targets as well. Hoping to get them out to shoot next time I'm at one of Stan's classes.

Just wanted to say, if your gonna be shooting them up close(15 yards or closer)its always a good idea to angle the targets slightly facing downward. This helps to make sure that splatter/bullet jacket fragments goes down towards the ground and not back at the shooter.

Good thing to remember.

Can you flip your targets around and take a picture? I want to see how you're holding them up in your configuration. Thanks.

Thanks. sure thing. i got my targets from socaltargetworks.com. daniel and joey are good guys. they have the targets cnc cut so everything is extremely precise. they made the brackets, targets (which can be flipped for longer life), and the heavy duty wide base stands.
