hey gang,
since we got a thread going on for stuff that breaks, we need one for stuff that we tried (or couldn't resist the deal) only to find out it is worthless for us and others really should avoid.
i'll start:
costco 3 pack techlite tactical flashlights.
they have that multifunction button in that back that makes it worthless in a true tactical scenario. it goes low->high->strobe->off->low. you can long press (2 seconds) to turn it off from any on function. you can long press (2 seconds) from the off to go straight to high. obviously you can't go instant on or off as NEEDED for the tactical drills in the low light class. i faltered many times trying to turn off the light which compromised my position. it caused me to be slower than my classmates to turn on the light to engage the target as well. all in all, extremely frustrating to use for the low light class.
i have read on the web that many people buy the cheap harbor freight flashlights and cannibalized the simple clicker to put into the costco lights. this makes it a simple on and off switch only. however, this takes effort, more money, and not as solid as a REAL tactical light.
this is fine for home use, keep in your glove box, etc... normal non tactical use.
--- AVOID this kind of light ----

Multifunction switch lights Yes, absolutely. These are too complicated and shutting them off takes too many clicks and time. Very non-tactical.

Those things are annoying even in the non-tactical setting. I bought a multi-pack of the cheap Brinkman headlamps from Home Depot and they have the same problem. You can't just turn them on and off; you have to cycle through all the modes every time. It's so annoying. Let's say you just want to turn on the light for a split-second to locate something, you can't.

I had the same problem using a SF 6px pro in Stan's class because of the dual output. It was slow to switch between modes. Single output is the best.

Just don't engage the button all the way for it to click. If you just partially engage the switch, it goes on and it'll go off when you release. I don't have those costco lights mounted on anything. I have them lying around the house, but I can use them in "tactical" situations if you use it the way I mentioned above.

hmmm.. my costco lights (both 180 lumen and 200 lumen versions) do not react to a partial press at all. you need to actually click for it to activate. you can long press (2 seconds) for it to come on high immediately. on any "on" setting, if you long press (2 seconds) you can turn it off immediately on letting go of the button.
you'll get cramps trying to use it in class that way... get a regular tactical light and be done with it...

I'll bring my light along and show you next time I see you in class. Maybe I got lucky and got a defective one

The only thing tactical about the COSCO lights is the serrated front edge for jabbing. Other than that I love having them all over the house for everyday needs.

NcStar Pistol and Rifle Led Flashlight/Quick Release Weaver.
Add this to the junk pile. I picked up one of these from Amazon for $28. Looks and fits great on my Sig P226. Took it out to the range and roughly 30 shots into it the light came flying off the Sig from the recoil. I examined it and the light was beginning to twist off as well.
Gave it another try and the same thing happened again about 30 shots into it. It had shut off before it went flying off. When I looked at it, the reason it had gone off because the light was twisting off from the body. I screwed it back on and tossed it into my bag. Looks like I have another flashlight around the house.

Ok, I stand corrected. Having just taken Stan's low light class: Those damn flashlights from Costco won't work when you have to manipulate it and your pistol under any kind of pressure whatsoever.
And another thing, CA bullet button -- it SUCKS. I couldn't find mine in the dark. Having one of these, it's a sure way to get yourself killed in a gunfight.
