Yes, I went through the Jungle Environmental Survival Training (JEST) course at Cubi Point, Luzon back in 1991 (wow!) 18 hours, can't bring food, a lot of walking and we ate what we found. Shrimp, plants, bats, frogs, crabs, and a monkey at the end. Similiar idea, live off the land. To the trained, the jungle is a supermarket of supplies. As long as you are in a permissive environment where you can boil water you can last there indefinately...until you catch malaria! Same idea though, at JEST the primary instructors were "Negritos" the original Filipinos like the Native Americans. BTW, I have my seat for 23 March with Nyerges! Stan Stan, Aside from the geographic difference with flora and fauna , how far different was this class from the Jungle Survival Course I believe you had to take in Subic Bay, Philippines as a US Marine stationed there... was there any similarities? I was lucky enough to have a quick survival class there a long time ago with a local expert and learned the hundreds of things that you can do with bamboo !!!

Wow Stan ! That was quite an assortment of jungle treats. Any pics ? Looks like 23/3/13 is the date. Also have my spot. Looking forward to getting together with you and other TASC students to learn more and apply some of the survival skills you and Christopher talked about. I also came across this posting last night. Common sense ideas, but reinforces some of the concepts we talked about in the seminar. www.suburbanprepper.com/2013/02/20/how-safe-is-your-family-9-rules-for-suburban-preppers/

The suburban prepper link sounds very, very similiar to a lot of the stuff I mentioned. They even mention the defense. Maybe I'm not so crazy after all! Haha! Most things are common sense and then the additional "frosting" that comes from trial and error.

You must have read my mind. I have never used an axe before and was thinking of asking Chris to teach me.

You must have read my mind. I have never used an axe before and was thinking of asking Chris to teach me. My friend came over while I was finishing up and wanted to see how sharp it really was. Before I could say, "Be careful," he sliced his thumb. Fortunately, he didn't press too hard. Looking forward to tomorrow ! Chris takes walk-ins, so come join us !
